This past year has been a whirlwind. In May, I moved a thousand miles away from home to become a whitewater rafting guide in Pennsylvania. After the summer was over, I decided to stay a while and got a job as a statistics tutor at a local university in addition to a bartendeding position on nights and weekends. Up north is different. It is fast-paced and cold. People make more money and are more educated (from my perspective at least), but that doesn't mean they're happier. Although the place where I grew up is no longer my house, Tennessee will always be home. My best friend is getting married on Saturday, so after my shift tomorrow night I'll be driving to Tennessee for the weekend. 14 hours there Friday. Wedding on Saturday. 14 hours back Sunday. Who cares about the drive. I won't be back to Tennessee again until May... so for one day, I'm home.

Once May rolls around, I'll be headed down to Memphis (a lovely 20 hour drive from here) to walk towards my next diploma. Above, you can see a snapshot from the campus I took last month.

Part II of III: Paris

Dreams of Paris in 2008

The above picture sums it up pretty well. Since I was very young, it had always been a dream of mine to visit Paris. Seeing the Eiffel Tower was, in my mind, one of the coolest things I could ever do. The older I became, the more I wanted to visit France and see not only the iconic symbol but also the city it towered over. After arriving in London, I made preparations to finally make my way to France. The closer the time came to my visit, the more I hoped I would not be disappointed. Too many times in life, the way we perceive things to be as a child either turn out entirely different or seem to be a let-down. I am so incredibly happy to say that Paris was neither. I don't know how or why one could or would be completely in love with a city when they've never been there, but I was. Perhaps it was simply a dream, perhaps it was an escape in my mind, perhaps I knew the journey would be the start of something amazing. But, nonetheless, I left Paris even more in love with the city and the idea of Paris than before. My stay was extremely short, but I was given a phenomenal tour by Peter, who is not only a Parisian resident, but someone I am happy to call a friend. Below are a few snapshots taken during my visit to the city of lights.

Part I of III: London

My fellow bloggers, colleagues, friends, and family. Pictures are finally here. Although there were a few thousand taken, I managed to slim the “must-sees” to a fraction of that. I’ve haven’t even been home a week, and Europe already feels a lifetime away. It’s amazing how easy it is to slip back into the everyday routines of life. Eight hours after I landed in Nashville, I was sitting in class, extremely sad to get back to reality, but ecstatic to start my final semester. But I’ll hush about North America and get back to London.
London.
There are a few myths about London, the main one being that it always rains. It does not always rain; it does, however, almost constantly mist. There are a few things you hear that are true though. For instance, the dollar sucks in comparison to the pound (and the euro for that matter) and some banks charge as much as five bucks for every international transaction… in case you’re wondering, my bank would be one of them, and I was not aware of that small detail until after I had already got back home. English tea is everything it is cracked up to be. Brits don’t seem to be much for “small-talk” with people whom they don’t really know, but they are extremely nice and helpful if you’re in a bind or need directions. Pubs, bars, and clubs don’t ask for id, for anyone… big change from the US. There is no ice given unless specifically requested, and lemons are put in sodas. They will also look at you like you’re crazy if you ask for a refill or if you ask for the check instead of the bill. They also get upset if you ask for the bill to be split. Menus are posted outside almost all restaurants, and tax is included in all listed prices, so what you see is what you pay. London is full of people from all around the world, it has any and every kind of food you could ever want or imagine, it’s an amazing place to go for the theater, and I could sit and listen to Brits talk all day.

After years of trying to make it happen, months of planning, a couple thousand dollars spent, and twenty-five hours of travel time, I have finally arrived. I write to you now from London, England. I'm staying in a quite prominent district, I'm told, called Mayfair. I believe it's in the Westminster district; however, I'm still learning what things are called here. Plus, no sleep for two days makes my brain run slower than usual. I somehow managed to make it on the plane without my adapter and my poor laptop is beeping at me, so pictures will come just as soon as I can get to Boots to buy an adapter. I will say this. London is absolutely beautiful. I've fallen in love. But I still have yet to make it to Paris. That comes at the beginning of next year. :) I'll keep everyone posted. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and is getting ready for 2011. You'll hear from me soon!

Christmas is almost here!
I can't believe how fast this year has flown by. In exactly one week I'll have my bags packed and will be boarding a plane bound for London. I'll be state-side again at the end of January. Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do or places to see while I'm there? I know I'll be staying in Mayfair until the beginning of January, but beyond that I've no plans. I hope everyone is having a safe and happy holiday and awaiting the arrival of Christmas... it's practically here!

my life didn't flash before my eyes,
and i didn't have a panic attack.
i just kept saying and praying, "oh God, oh God,"
i'm not really quite sure which,

the fence was in front of me,
a split second later it was gone.
skidmarks and debris littered the road.
i came in contact and watched through the rain
as the entire back-end of the car
flew in front of me.
mere seconds felt like hours
when i finally came to a stop.
the car was totaled.
time stopped as i realized i was alive.

Thanksgiving is in exactly one week. The holidays are upon us, and I for one can't believe how quickly the year has flown by. Before we know it, we'll be welcoming 2011 in and I couldn't be more excited. I got another job today. This technically makes three. I'm working my tail off with seventy-three hours scheduled in the next seven days. However, it will be well worth it when I'm exploring London in December and January. Hope all is well with everyone, with fantastic weekend plans and Turkey Day excitement abound. :)

Unanswered Prayers.

November 11th. I've sat here, blankly staring at the screen for who knows how long. All I really know to say is this: sometimes God's greatest gifts truly are unanswered prayers. A small update on my life. December, I will be moving to London. No need to get all excited, it's only for a few weeks. However, I'm terrified, ecstatic, and so many other things. It really is indescribable. Furthermore, next week I will hopefully (keeping my fingers crossed) have sent out my applications for grad school. Aberdeen, in Scotland, is my number one, followed by Edinburgh. And if grad school doesn't work out, hopefully (again, keeping my fingers crossed) I'll be on my way to Germany for a year-long internship. Young Americans would be my final backup plan. Hopefully at least one of the three will work out. But, I'm always open for other ideas and options. :) It's so strange. I used to have my life completely planned out and literally could not deal with not knowing what would happen. Now, I thrive on it. I hate plans. Unfortunately, in regards to your future, it's somewhat necessary to plan a few things out. For the past few weeks, I've thought I'd need a stiff drink right about now. But now that today is finally here, everything seems so surreal. Instead of planning for a future I probably never really wanted, I'm putting the final touches on actually doing something with my life. And instead of needing a stiff drink, I'm about to clock in to serve drinks to other people. Sometimes the greatest gift of all is unanswered prayers.

I am quite sad. After actually sitting down to assess who was still here of those I followed a year ago, I was disappointed to discover that only four blogs were still in use. However, I know what it is like to disappear for months at a time and then randomly pop back in. That being said, it is good to be back. And no more depresso posts (on here anyway); it has been over a year after all. I think I'm going to try to revamp my blog... but I'm not sure how yet. We'll see how it turns out. Falling With The Leaves

What an evenful summer I've had. Rather, make that an eventful year. Now the warm weather has moved on and the chill is back in the air. It's time for fall. I'm currently in Philadelphia seeing the sights. I'll board a plane bound for Nashville in a few hours time and get back to the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No doubt I'll enjoy the slightly warmer weather back home for the brief time that it lasts... it's absolutely freezing up here. No matter. Fall has come. Time for the leaves to change, the temperature to drop, pumpkins, corn mazes, and costumes. This year, I hope to take this little guy trick or treating, if for no other reason than to show him off. He is my nephew, after all. Hope he brings a smile to your face, I know he certainly does to mine. Wishing everyone a fantastic week, and pictures and stories from my adventures are to come soon... hopefully. Maybe I won't procrastinate until next year. ;-)

I've been sitting here playing on my laptop listening to Tyler Hilton; Sasha is curled up, asleep in her little bed. It's been much too long. I'm on here almost every day listening to my play list, but funny enough, I couldn't even remember what to do or how to navigate after I logged in. It took me forever to figure out how to get back to my home page after rambling around sites I haven't seen in a quarter of a year. Hah. Hope all is well and summer has lifted your spirits.

Hello my lovely, fellow bloggers. My life has been crazy. It is currently 4:47 and I just (mostly) finished up with my crazy-busy day.
I had five tests today: 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00. Biology lab from 1:00-3:00. Piano from 3:00-4:00. My brain is fried right now. And it doesn't quite help that it was eighty and sunny yesterday and today it's supposed to snow. Blah. Well, on to other news; for those of you familiar with Grover and my "new" car... the guy kinda screwed me over and that wonderful "new" car had a blown alternator and motor. It was awesome, let me tell you, absolutely awesome (sarcasm, sarcasm). So my little Grover has been fixed. I've discovered it's much better to sink some money into your "Old Faithful" rather than going through the hassel I went through.
So anyhow, I'm warming up some college food of mac 'n cheese and then am going to attempt to relax. I'm planning on going out to a nice dinner and getting a massage later. Hope everyone is doing great. =) Once my life calms down a bit maybe I'll actually get on a blog every once in a while. Here's a little sunshine to brighten the dreary day. =)

Things have definitely been a bit crazy here lately. Along with school starting and getting a weekend teaching job, my car finally bit the dust.

Grover (don't ask), my thirteen year old Camry, finally died. Toyota's go forever, they really do. But one problem they had with the ninety's models was oil leaks. Grover, like many other Camry's, developed a small oil leak back in 2000. As annoying as it was, as long as the oil was checked (and added if needed) every morning, the car was still perfectly fine. However, Grover has lived in the garage until I moved away to school.

After an eight degree night, I went to check the oil and it was completely empty. Now at 262,256 miles, Grover wont hold oil at all. Now the time has come for the joyous task of car hunting. But, I suppose it could always be worse... at least Grover didn't float away. =)

A glimpse into the life of PeanutButterBound.

Do you ever wish you could go back in time? Many shows and movies give their take on "time travel;" some popular ones including Heroes, Lost, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, Superman, and Terminator, just to name a few.

I hardly ever watch television, and growing up we had only the three main channels. However, since the new high-definition is going into effect, my parents have got a few more. A few nights ago I sat down with the parentals and caught an episode of Andy Griffith. Now for anyone who hasn't seen this show, I would highly recommend it (and this is coming from the non-tv watcher, mind you).

Watching that episode got me to thinking. Times were so much simpler then. People weren't running around like crazy, too busy for the important things. Although some people refer to it as a time truly "boring" and think back then those people "had no lives," you think about it. They led more simple lives, yes, but they also had time for their families, friends, and believed in the kindness and goodness of mankind.

Now I realize it is impossible to "go back in time," even though generations and generations have imagined and dreamed of it. But, what if... what if you could go back in time? Where would you go; what would you do?

I've put together a list of mine, and I'd love to know yours. =)

Vacation and Awards Galore

Well, our little "mini-vacation" has been pretty interesting. The whole time we've been up here, all it's managed to do so far is either rain, sleet, or be dreadfully dreary. We haven't even made it to Gatlinburg yet. But, that hasn't stopped us. Although the weather made us change our plans on a few things, it allowed us to discover some other things we probably would've missed out on otherwise.

Things to check out in East Tennessee:

I'm sure many of you have already seen videos of home Christmas Lights synchronized to a Christmas song. This is one particular house synced to "Wizards in Winter" by the Trans Siberian Orchestra. It won the 2005 Worldwide PlanetChristmas Decorating Contest and is one of my favorites. Hope you enjoy and maybe it will put you in the "Christmas spirit."

Just as Christmas is a season of giving, I believe it is also a season of awards for the blogging community. Dreaming of a White Christmas

It's finally Christmas break and I'm done for the semester. Sunday I'm off to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for a mini-vacation and will be gone until Friday. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures and post some when I get back next weekend. Speaking of which, it's been snowing all day and on the way to dinner I took a couple of pictures with my camera phone. That's the picture you see above. I know I normally don't post my own pictures, but I haven't seen a good snow in so long and it was gorgeous... did anyone notice the Christmas lights in the background? We may actually get a White Christmas this year, I'm just hoping we don't get snowed in while we're in Gatlinburg. In the meantime, keep the pictures coming - I will post them soon!

Although this is not your typical "Western's ride off into the sunset," in a way I think it still has the same effect. Matt has been all over the place, and picking one particular picture was very difficult. I ended up just picking a place, and picking a picture. This is one that stood out. It's obviously not of any famous or historical monument, festival, or any other spectacular thing. It's about life. Perhaps that is why I loved it. I hope you will too. My mother's family was orginally from France and ever since I was a little girl I wanted to go. However, that's not the only reason I always wanted to visit; I'm fascinated by the architecture, the culture, the history, the language, everything. I even took French in high school, but must admit, now I remember very little of it. Of all the places in the world I want to go and all the things I want to see, the Eiffel Tower is at the top of that list. Maybe it's because of how it originated; maybe it's because it's a global icon; maybe it's just because it's the Eiffel Tower. Anyhow, I want to travel, but I feel my life will not be complete until I see that one structure. I will see that place at least once in my life. But enough rantings of this abnormal eighteen year old. Many, many thanks to Peter for letting me use his photos. Hope you enjoy.
